Counselor GuideUnlike conventional standardized tests, DSA assesses your deep scholastic capabilities in areas you're genuinely passionate about.
Choose subjects aligned with your intended college major. Test your aptitude in fields you truly care about, not generic subjects.
Engage with frontier research in a major-level Core Subject, then extend your profile through specialized Adjacent Subjects.
Common materials, secure administration, and consistent scoring standards support fair comparisons. Core Subjects balance prepared and live performance.
We believe true academic potential is revealed through deep engagement with subjects students genuinely care about. DSA offers two complementary paths: the Frontier Way uses current academic research across a major field, while the Concentration Way examines focused areas of advanced university study.
This philosophy aligns with what you know to be true: the best students aren't just academically capable—they're intellectually curious, self-directed learners who thrive when studying subjects they're passionate about. DSA provides additional evidence of this readiness before students arrive on campus.
When you see a strong DSA score, you're seeing evidence of: genuine interest in the field, proven ability to handle advanced material, independent learning skills, and a student who is likely to persist and excel in your program.
A new standard in academic assessment built on four core principles
DSA recognizes that students' abilities vary by area and success is deeply affected by personal interests. Choose an aspired major you're truly passionate about and demonstrate your aptitude in that specific field.
Core Subjects assess prepared and live engagement with frontier research. Adjacent Subjects assess specialized areas such as Behavioral Economics, Molecular Biology, or Machine Learning.
Prepared and live materials reveal both sustained learning and the ability to acquire unfamiliar knowledge under realistic time constraints. Success depends on genuine comprehension and academic thinking.
DSA mirrors authentic college learning: students must prepare by reading and digesting substantial material independently, then demonstrate their knowledge mastery within realistic time constraints.
Make more informed decisions with major-specific academic assessment data
Traditional standardized tests provide a general view of student potential. They measure broad academic skills but are less focused on how students engage with specific majors or advanced coursework. As an admissions officer, you're making critical decisions about which students are prepared for specialized programs and sustained academic work.
You need better data. You need to identify students who aren't just academically capable, but who demonstrate genuine passion and aptitude for their intended field of study.
DSA scores provide field-specific evidence that can help readers understand a student's readiness for advanced coursework in the chosen discipline.
Collegiate-level depth assessments reveal genuine intellectual engagement and how students think, adapt, and engage with complex subject matter.
DSA combines transparent preparation resources with secure, standardized assessment. Core Subjects distinguish prepared performance from live knowledge acquisition, while Adjacent Subjects provide focused evidence of achievement in a selected concentration.
DSA mirrors authentic college learning—students who succeed have proven they can handle independent preparation and the rigors of college-level work.

Select one major-level DSA Core Subject, then choose up to one optional DSA Adjacent Subject that extends your profile into a specialized area.
Use the official Core Subject preparation materials included with registration. These curated materials cover essential foundations in a more targeted format than full 600-700 page textbooks.
Note: Each subject typically requires approximately 15-20 hours for learning and preparation.
The exam and tutorial materials are not designed to exhaust the full scope of the concentration subject, but rather to give students a deep taste and opportunity to prove their aptitude in the field.
Complete a 180-minute Core Subject assessment in a quarterly window. Each selected Adjacent Subject is a separate 90-minute assessment offered on its published semiannual schedule.
Scores are calculated after the testing window closes and are targeted for release within 7 working days. Receive separate subject scores, a digital certificate, and a consolidated score when multiple attempts apply.

DSA reports each completed subject separately. Core Subject reports show prepared and live performance, knowledge acquisition, academic thinking, timing context, and attempt history.
Students may include the report as supplementary academic evidence, while counselors and parents can use it to understand where the student demonstrates depth.
